MOSCOW, Jan 15 (PRIME) -- Russia’s willingness to ñhange the international settlement currency from the U.S. dollars into rubles or alternative currencies stems from the aggressive and sometimes absurd economic policy of the U.S., Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at the Gaidar forum on Tuesday.
“We are expanding the use of the ruble and other currencies in our external settlements, we have cut our investment in the U.S. treasuries significantly. By the way, the latest Russia’s Eurobonds were denominated in euros. These are the consequences of the aggressive and… often absurd economic policy of the United States,” he said.
“It is clear that national economies’ dependence on the dollar will only decrease, the economic moves of the world’s most powerful economic player only raise the tensions.”
Medvedev also said that statistics are “in a deadlock” and the global community is discussing ways to calculate gross domestic product (GDP) correctly and the very necessity to calculate the figure as it seems to be reflecting the state of national economies wrong.
